· Condition etc.
This is a rough guide to a standard appointment at Prefurred Grooming for information purposes.
Initial Booking
When booking your appointment, you will be asked important questions such as breed, condition of coat, grooming history & temperament so that we can get a sense of what is required & make a plan for grooming Please be honest to ensure the safety of your Pet and our staff.
Pre Groom Etiquette
Please ensure your dog has had a walk & chance to ‘relieve’ itself of any business before your appointment. We do not mind the odd accident at the salon but would rather avoid it if possible
The Appointment
Upon arriving at the salon, you will be asked to confirm your details already provided & to complete a ‘Customer Consent’ form for our records. All records that we hold on yourself and your pet conform to GDPR guidelines.

The first appointment will include a ‘Free Pre-Groom Consultation’, where we will discuss your requirements & the best approach for grooming your Pet. The purpose of the pre-groom consultation is so we can avoid ending up with a style you don’t want, so please arrive expecting lots of questions surrounding your pet’s breed, coat condition, coat type, your lifestyle & your likes and dislikes, which will help your Pet enjoy their experience with Prefurred Grooming.

You will be asked to leave once everything is discussed; Please do this as calmly as possible to ensure your Pet does not assume its leaving time & get over excited! Long goodbyes will leave your Pet anxious & will not help them to settle!
Typically, an appointment for a full groom can take at least 1.5 hours, or more. We will give you a courtesy call approximately twenty minutes before the session is complete to allow you enough time to return & collect your Pet & make payment.
All add-ons are at an additional cost on top of the standard grooming cost. Please check with your groomer for the final price.
Prices may vary depending on condition of coat & Pet’s temperament.
Payment can be taken by cash or card & must be made on collection of your pet.
Pets must be fit & healthy & walked prior to their appointments & any changes to their overall health status must be reported to your groomer prior to your visit.

Prefurred Grooming Ltd will not be held responsible for irritation, abrasion, patchiness, or hair loss due to any pre-existing skin condition, or as a result of the process of grooming, de-matting, thinning, stripping or shaving.
Photographs may be taken of your pet for the groomer’s records. These images may be used in publicity & advertising, including social media websites. Please inform your groomer if you would not like your Pet’s image to be used on social media, prior to the appointment.

We reserve the right to refuse an animal that presents a risk of injury to itself or a member of staff. Grooming of any kind cannot commence until the customer declaration has been signed.

Humanity before Vanity - Matting
Pets with severely matted coats require extra time, care and attention. Shaving a matted pet is not a quick and easy process and causes damage to our equipment. Prefurred Grooming LTD refuses to cause serious or undue stress to pets by de-matting. Heavy matting can trap moisture and urine near the pet’s skin, allowing mould, fungus, or bacteria to grow. Matts can be difficult to remove and may require the pet to be shaved. Removing a heavily matted coat could cause nicks, cuts, or abrasions. Every care is taken by your groomer however these are a possibility. Shaving can reveal skin irritations that existed prior to the grooming process. After-effects of matt removal can include itchiness, redness, self-inflicted irritations or abrasions, and failure of hair to regrow. In some cases, pets may also exhibit brief behavioural changes.

Should such an issue occur we shall give you a call to discuss the process and charges prior to shaving. Should the call not be answered we shall commence shaving for the wellbeing and comfort of your Pet. In addition to the grooming cost a matting fee will be applied to the final price. Should your Pet need veterinarian care after or during the process, Prefurred grooming Ltd will not be liable for any veterinarian fees.
Seasons / Pregnancy and Post Whelping
If your dog is in season it would be best to avoid coming to the salon until the season is complete. Bitches can be slightly more sensitive than normal during their season & being groomed may become uncomfortable or upsetting for her. We are a clean salon & hygiene is of utmost importance, but a bitch on heat will leave behind scents that will drive the boys crazy & make for an uncomfortable grooming session for them too. Additional charges may apply if a dog is left for grooming without informing the groomer of being in season.
If your Bitch is pregnant please inform us as soon as possible so we can discuss your options with you in full prior to agreeing to your appointment.
If your Bitch has had puppies please do not book her next appointment until all puppies are weaned fully.
Late cancellation charges may apply if appointment is cancelled with less than 24 hours notice
Illness /Bugs / Fleas / Ticks
If you are aware of your Pet being unwell, has had surgery or is fighting infection or infestation please inform us as soon as you can & do not bring your pet to the salon until we have discussed the issue.
The shampoo we use includes natural flea fighting ingredients, but it is not a cure so please ensure your Pet is up to date with flea treatments as we are not licensed to sell or administer these treatments.
If a few fleas are found on your Pet, you will be informed politely as you will need to treat your Pets and your home, to get rid of the pesky critters. We understand that pets easily pick up such parasites and thus do not charge if a couple of fleas are found. However, if your Pet has a flea infestation £60 will be added to your bill to cover the expense & time of having to decontaminate the salon & the equipment. If you are aware that your Pet has a flea problem, or you suspect that they may have fleas please let us know as soon as possible so we may isolate your Pet from other pets and schedule an appropriate appointment to minimise your costs.
Ticks are commonly found on a pet’s skin during the warmer months, we can remove these during the grooming session. You will be informed upon collection if we found any, as you will need to keep an eye on the site of the tick’s bite for a couple of days just in case of infection.
Post Groom Etiquette
Pick up time - We will contact you approximately twenty minutes before the grooming is finished or if you are a regular you will be given a time to collect upon arrival. Please do not arrive early for collection as you pet will get excited & we may be unable to finish the groom. If you are having difficulties with collection, please let us know so we can discuss alternative arrangements.
Please respect that we operate on an appointment basis only so that every pet has a calm & relaxing experience. Having other pets in the salon, eager to see their owners does not make for a very relaxing time for our next customer. If you are more than half an hour late for collection & we have not heard from you, there will be a charge of £5 per 15 minutes.
Changes - If you are unhappy with our groom, please do not hesitate to let us know so we can make changes there and then if possible, or at your next appointment. If the style is too short, please remember, it will grow back! The purpose of the pre-groom consultation is so we can discuss your requirements to avoid ending up with a style you don’t want. If we have misunderstood, you in the consultation we will try our best to make this right to ensure you are happy
Aggression Policy
If your dog is extraordinarily difficult or aggressive towards staff you may receive a call to collect your dog, regardless of how far into the grooming we are. In most cases, we will try to continue working calmly with your dog, however if they are too distressed & deemed un-groomable it would be best to stop for the safety of your dog & staff. The full price of the groom will be payable. Upon collection we can discuss the best route forward to overcome the issues going forward.
Missed Appointment / Cancellation Policy / Late Arrivals
We understand that life happens however we do have a 48-hour cancellation policy. Please inform us if you are unable to attend your appointment otherwise you may be charged up to 100% of the grooming fee, which should be paid prior to the next appointment being booked. A deposit system may be implemented for repeat offenders! If you are running late for your slot, please give us a call to let us know as soon as you can. We work to a very tight schedule throughout the day & being more than 15 minutes late can have a massive knock-on effect on other appointments. If you are more than 20 minutes late you may be asked to rebook for another day & may have to pay a fee which will be added to your next visit.
At home …..
During collection we may give advice on brushing and maintenance if you need any advice at all in between grooms please do not hesitate to message us and we will be more than happy to help.
If there is anything you would like done differently with your dog’s groom please make a note of this & let us know at your next appointment. Please remember, hair grows back! Grooming is a learning curve for your dog & it will take a few sessions before he or she is used to being pampered, therefore your dog may not be finished perfectly until s/he settles in. We strive for perfection but not at the cost of the dog’s comfort and trust in us.
